This Viking Hammer of Thor amulet pendant is made of lead-free pewter. The hammer comes on a chain. The pendant is attached to a folding information card, which has images of Viking brooches with filigree decoration around the edges on the front and a description of Viking jewellery on the back. The pendant is a replica of an original Viking artefact.
The Vikings showed their wealth, power and social status by wearing beautiful precious metal jewellery. Many jewels were made from silver ingots, coins and payments known as Danegeld, which were melted down and used as raw material.
Intricate and masterfully crafted jewellery was created using techniques such as filigree and metal beating (repoussé). While brooches were used as ornaments and to fasten clothing, the amulets of the Viking gods were meant to protect the wearer.
