This Roman scorpion-shaped pendant is made of lead-free pewter and comes with a red or blue stone. The pendant is suspended from a waxed cord. It is mounted on a folding information card, which has a Roman mosaic motif on the front and describes the Praetorian Guard and the meaning of the abbreviation SPQR on the reverse.

Scorpio was the symbol of the Praetorian Guard, representing the sign of Scorpio, the astrological symbol in which the Emperor Tiberius was born. This guard was a unit of bodyguards for the Roman emperors, who also served as secret police and took part in wars.

The letters SPQR (Senatus Populusque Romanus), meaning "Senate and People of Rome", were placed on buildings, coins and military standards. These standards were carried by each legion and were decorated with golden eagles, laurel wreaths, astrological signs and banners called vexilla.
