The statue of Jan Hus represents one of the most important personalities of Czech history. Master Jan Hus was a preacher, thinker and reformer who spoke out against the abuse of church power and demanded a return to original Christian values. His teachings greatly influenced religious and social development in Central Europe.
The figure depicts Jan Hus in his typical long robe with a book in his hand, a symbol of education, faith and the search for truth. The dynamic drapery of the garment gives the whole statue a distinctive character and is reminiscent of medieval sculpture.
Jan Hus worked at the University of Prague and as a preacher in Bethlehem Chapel. In 1415 he was burnt as a heretic during the Council of Constance. His death became a symbol of the struggle for truth and conscience.
The statue is suitable as a decoration for a study, library or as a gift for those interested in Czech history, Hussitism and the Middle Ages.
