This sword is named in honour of the feared Battle of Towton, the bloodiest battle of the War of the Roses, which took place in a Yorkshire village on 29 March 1461 between the supporters of Edward IV and Henry VI for the English throne.

The scabbard now contains a wooden core beneath the outer leather layer. The handle is covered in leather with dimples created by the historically authentic 'wet-wrap' process, during which a fine cord is wrapped tightly around the damp leather handle. Once dry, the cord is removed, leaving attractive striations on the leather that provide the perfect texture and grip.

In the winter of 1461, Edward IV, then still uncrowned, marched north with a large army of the House of York (the white rose of the War of the Roses) to attack the forces of the House of Lancaster (the red rose) of the legitimate King Henry VI. Although the Yorks attacked the strong Lancastrian position on the hillside at Towton, the Yorks were backed up by a blinding snowstorm that backed into their backs. This allowed the York archers to shoot arrows at a greater range than the Lancastrians could manage. Twenty thousand royal soldiers ran down the slope to meet their tormentors. The next six hours brought the death of thousands in one of the bloodiest battles ever fought on English soil.

The blade tapers to a formidable point and is channeled for most of its length, providing greater speed. On foot it could be used two-handed, while on horseback its perfect balance and weight still allowed for effective one-handed strikes. It is a real pleasure to wield this sword. The long and elegant hilt and the wood and leather handle complement each other perfectly with the distinctive curved guard. Flexible and well hardened.
