The scimitar (also called schimitar or szimitar) is a general term, taken from English, for an oriental sabre. It is usually a single-edged cutting and stabbing weapon with a curved blade, the shape of which suggests a Middle Eastern origin.
The original scimitar, or cimitarra, had a strongly curved blade that almost followed the shape of a semicircle. It was a Persian weapon with various wartime uses. The blade is forged from carbon steel, the pommel is made of wood, and the guard and scabbard ornaments are steel.
