Pins and decorative pins made of bone were very common in Viking times and represented a cheaper alternative to expensive bronze and silver decorative pins and brooches.
Bone pins are therefore found throughout the Viking settlement area between 800 and 1100 AD and are known from sites such as Birka, Haithabu, York and Trondheim.
This Viking bone pin is decorated with a finely carved motif. Needles were used by the Vikings to fasten their cloaks, but they also served as hairpins.
The reproduction Viking pin measures approximately 1,5 x 15,5 cm.
