This Viking shield pendant is made of resin and hand painted. The shield comes on a waxed cord. The pendant is mounted on a folding information card which has an image of a Viking dragon on the front, Odin's mask and spiral designs on the sides. On the reverse side is a description of the meaning of the jewels to the Vikings.
Viking men and women wore jewellery. The richest jewellery served not only as ornamentation, but more importantly to make a clear statement of wealth and social status, and to fasten clothing.
Viking jewellery evolved into an elaborate and masterful art, with silver being strongly favoured. The main motifs were natural and animal designs, mythology and also simple geometric ornaments.
