The Viking spectacle helmet is crafted from 1.2 mm steel. It consists of a blackened, domed helmet bowl, a band running around its lower edge, two intersecting reinforcing bands running from front to back and from ear to ear, and a spectacle-shaped face guard with nasal protection. The individual components are joined with steel rivets. The spaces between the steel bands are fitted with Y-shaped brass plates secured to the bowl with brass rivets. The reinforcing bands and spectacle guard are decorated with a Celtic-style interlace pattern.

The interior of the helmet is blackened and fitted with an adjustable leather liner secured with rivets. The chin strap is made from 2 mm thick black leather and fastens with a steel buckle.

The helmet includes a shoulder-length chainmail aventail that protects the neck, throat and lower face. It is composed of butted, unriveted steel rings with an internal diameter of approximately 9 mm. The aventail is attached to the helmet by a sturdy iron wire running around its circumference. The wire passes through loops riveted to the lower edge of the helmet bowl and spectacle guard.

Helmets of the spangenhelm type were among the most widespread helmet types of the early European Middle Ages. This model, however, is not a replica of a specific historical find. It is a free interpretation of early medieval and Germanic nasal helmets, spangenhelms and spectacle helmets from the Vendel Period and Viking Age.

This fully wearable fantasy helmet combines Scandinavian, Anglo-Saxon, Norman and other influences. It is suitable as an accessory for LARP, fantasy costumes, fancy dress events, theatre, television and film productions.
