Ancient Greek coin with Pegasus - symbol of power and divine strength
The relief composition combines a classical portrait of a ruler or God with the mythological Pegasus - a winged horse, one of the most famous symbols of Greek mythology.
The obverse of the coin shows the profile of a bearded man adorned with a laurel wreath. The laurel was a symbol of victory, glory and divine protection in ancient Greece. Portraits on Greek coins often represented rulers, heroes or gods and were created with attention to detail and realism.
The reverse depicts Pegasus , the legendary winged horse associated with gods, heroes and celestial power. In Greek mythology, Pegasus was born from the blood of Medusa and became a symbol of freedom, inspiration and power transcending the world of men. His image was used as a sign of strength, speed and divine origin.
In the ancient cultures of the Black Sea region and the Greek colonies, similar mythological animals represented the protection of the city, prosperity and the authority of the ruling power.
The entire composition is based on historical models of ancient staters.
