This set of "Twelve Caesars" coins contains 12 replicas of Roman denarii that have been cast directly from the original coins and are made of pewter. These 12 denarii represent the first 12 emperors of the Roman Empire. They are Julius Caesar, Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero, Galba, Otho, Vitellius, Vespasianus, Titus and Domitianus.
The reversible package contains 12 holes in which each coin is housed in a transparent blister, allowing the obverse and reverse to be clearly seen. A color card shows the emperor and the period of his reign under each coin. There are also images of various Roman gold and silver coins on the front and back, and a historical text describing the creation of the biographical work Twelve Caesars.
Information: The Twelve Caesars, written by Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus (c. AD 71-135), is a collection of biographies of Julius Caesar and the first eleven emperors of the Roman Empire. The material for this work was gathered from imperial archives, eyewitness accounts of the time, and the author's own experiences of life at court.
The work tells the story of the life of each Caesar according to a well-established scheme: appearance, omens and prophecies, family history, quotations, and then historical overview - all presented in a uniform order.
Julius Caesar was the first living Roman whose portrait appeared on the official coins of the mint of the time. It was both a symbol of his power and a break with tradition. This practice was continued by his successors.
