Medieval historical board games - chess. Here is a significant source of information, the so-called Book of Games published in 1283 by the Castilian King Alfonso X, titled The Book of Chess, Dice, and Board Games.  Card games gradually emerged, gaining popularity after the invention of the printing press. However, similar to Rome, nothing could threaten the popularity and widespread play of dice games – literally synonymous with gambling (the word "gambling" comes from the Arabic term for dice), which was also suppressed as a gambling game.
