The war hammer is a weapon that was widely used especially in the Middle Ages in close combat. It is so called because its shape resembles a common hammer. It has a top and a pommel and is characterised by its high striking power. It is ready for combat.
This 14th-century Italian war hammer was designed for use against armoured opponents. It's smaller in size, but it can strike an extremely powerful blow to anyone in its path. Warhammers gained great popularity with the development of protective armour, from the effective ring-type to the much stronger plate-type, because while blades bounced off plates, hammers and other blunt-force weapons could inflict damage without piercing armour.
Based on a classic Italian design, it has a hardwood top with a leather wrap at the bottom for a firm and comfortable grip. The upper part of the upper receiver carries the pommel, attached with long metal reinforcements that strengthen the structure and allow the weapon to withstand strong impacts. The pommel itself has a small knurled strike block to concentrate the force of the blow, and a recoil spike on the opposite side, suitable for jamming and piercing. This 14th-century Italian war hammer is a justly feared weapon and a near-perfect countermeasure against plate armour - compact, fast and equipped with all the qualities that warriors appreciated in a good, solid hammer.
