Stage combat swords – Full-Tang

What is Full-Tang sword construction?

With swords made using this method, the blade continues in a single piece through the handle and into the pommel, where the tang is peened on the surface. The pommel features a trapezoid-shaped opening, just like in historical finds, which is a major advantage because the blade fits precisely into this opening during assembly. This eliminates the need for non-historical brass welding and additional heat treatment. This method ensures consistent and excellent properties along the entire length of the sword.

Material

The material used is spring steel 54SiCr6 (ČSN 14 260), which is ideal for sword making due to its high strength, flexibility, and wear resistance. The silicon and chromium content increases elasticity and toughness, helping prevent breakage. Another advantage is its good heat-treating capability, allowing the blade to reach optimal hardness.
