Moldavites formed following the impact of a meteorite in what is now Bavaria about 15 million years ago. Molten terrestrial material was ejected by the impact and fell across the surrounding regions, including South Bohemia, where moldavites are still found today. They are among the most beautiful tektites in the world, distinguished by their green colour and characteristic surface texture.
