Introducing the Signature Collection by Windlass. The blade has improved distal taper, making the sword more agile and faster. The scabbard now contains a wooden core under the outer leather layer. The hilt is covered in leather with dimples created by the historically authentic "wet-wrap" process, during which a fine cord is wrapped tightly around the damp leather hilt. Once dry, the cord is removed, leaving attractive striations on the leather that provide the perfect texture and grip.

We have named this beautiful Type XVIII sword in honour of the Battle of Arbedo, which took place in the Swiss town of Arbedo-Castione on 30 June 1422 between the troops of the Duke of Milan, Filippo Maria Visconti, led by Francesco Musson, known as Carmagnola, and the forces of the Canton of Uri, with the victory of the Milanese, who recaptured the Tessin Valley and halted Swiss expansion into the southern Alps.

In June 1422 at Arbed, the famous Milanese cavalry commander Carmagnola, accompanied by Angelo de la Pergola, 6,000 cavalry and 4,000 infantry, attacked an army of 4,000 Swiss lancers and halberdiers. While the battle raged, a group of Swiss hunters and gatherers approached the battlefield. Both Carmagnola and de la Pergola thought the hunters were another army and withdrew, allowing the Swiss to retreat in an orderly fashion. This bloody and ambiguous battle left a large percentage of Swiss dead, although Carmagnola's army actually lost more men.

The imposing cutting blade tapers to a sharp point. The fifteen-centimeter handle allows for one or two-handed use. Carbon steel blade. Steel guard and pommel. Wooden handle wrapped with cord and covered with leather. Made with wide shank.

The original is on display at the Metropolitan Museum and is also listed in the book "Records of the Medieval Sword" on page 189 by Ewart Oakeshott.
