Moldavite is a green meteoritic glass formed 14.5 million years ago during a meteorite impact in the Nördlingen region of Bavaria, where a crater with a diameter of 24 km was created. The meteorite was probably about 1 km in diameter. The impact melted local rocks, which were ejected into the air, cooled, and later fell about 250 km away in what is now South Bohemia.
