St. Hadrian’s single-handed sword with scabbard and sword belt, inspired by European knightly swords of the 12th century. The blade features a narrow fuller and is complemented by a steel crossguard and a Brazil-nut pommel. The wooden grip is covered in leather with raised risers and a cord-impressed finish. The blade tang passes through the grip and is peened over the end of the pommel.
A distinctive part of the set is the wooden scabbard covered in vegetable-tanned leather with an embossed foliate design. Its decoration and suspension system draw on a surviving scabbard associated with St. Hadrian in the Bamberg Cathedral Treasury. The leather parts of this historical example date from the 12th to the first half of the 13th century and provide rare evidence of medieval scabbard and sword belt craftsmanship.
The replica’s blade is made from C60 high-carbon steel and is supplied unsharpened. The ochre-coloured scabbard features a steel chape and an interlaced leather sword belt for wearing at the hip.
This sword is not intended for contact combat.
