Moldavite is a tektite, meteorite glass whose origin is linked to the impact of a meteorite around 15 million years ago. Its occurrence is mainly associated with South Bohemia and the surroundings of the lower Vltava (Moldau) River. Worldwide, these unique stones are highly valued.
In South Bohemia, there was a tradition that every young man would give this stone to his future bride as a symbol of his deepest feelings. Interestingly, W. Churchill used to carry this magical stone in his pocket for good luck.
