Geri and Freki are a pair of wolves in Norse mythology who belong to the God Ódin. Their names are usually translated as “Ravenous” and “Greedy,” reflecting their wild nature. According to Old Norse texts, they sit by his side in the hall of Valhalla and accompany him on his journeys through the world.
Interestingly, the God Ódin himself does not need to eat – he gives all food to Geri and Freki. The wolves are not merely companions, but also manifestations of his power and his connection to war, death, and the untamed wild. In the broader context of Norse mythology, wolves represent an ambivalent force – destructive, yet sacred and closely tied to fate.
