The heraldic depiction of the Czech lion has appeared on the coats of arms of Czech monarchs since the 13th century.
The Czech lion is also associated with the legend of Bruncvík. It was adopted as the emblem of the Czech lands by the “Iron and Golden” King Přemysl Otakar II and remains so to this day.
