Moldavite is a tektite, a meteorite glass formed in connection with a meteorite impact about 15 million years ago. Its occurrence is mainly tied to South Bohemia and the lower Vltava River area. These unique stones are highly valued worldwide. Czech moldavites are considered the most beautiful.
In South Bohemia, it was customary for every young man to give his bride-to-be a moldavite as a proof of his deepest feelings. Interestingly, W. Churchill always carried a moldavite in his pocket for good luck.
