This helmet was the forerunner of what later became the great helmet, and eventually gave way to the lighter bascinet helmet. Our version is as it would have been found in the late 13th and early 14th centuries.
Its conical top reflects oblique sword strokes, while the ancient decorative brass cross on the face bears the emblem of the Knights Templar. The helmet is made of steel approximately 1.2 mm thick and has a soft, padded adjustable liner inside to allow for a suitable fit.
