Vltavín

Vltaviny (CZ), also known as Moldavites according to the German name of the Moldau River, remain highly prized minerals currently located in the southern regions of the Czech Republic. Their name is derived from the Vltava River, in whose vicinity they are often found, especially in the locations of Besednice, Netolice, Nesměň, and Chlum.

These are specific silica-rich tektites of meteoric origin, formed around 14.7 million years ago after the impact of a large meteoroid in the area of present-day Bavaria. This was followed by a period of Moldavite rain, during which these tektites fell onto southern Bohemia.

Moldavites exhibit a characteristic olive-green and light green color that is unmistakable. Interest in their study began to grow in the second half of the 18th century when people started delving deeper into their origin and significance. Besides their physical properties, Moldavites are often associated with esoteric meaning, considered as stones with energetic and spiritual capabilities.
