Moldavite is a tektite, a meteoritic glass associated with the impact of a meteorite about 15 million years ago. Its occurrence is mainly limited to South Bohemia and the lower Vltava River basin. Around the world, these unique stones are highly valued. Czech Moldavites are considered the most beautiful.

In South Bohemia, there was a tradition that every young man would give his bride-to-be a Moldavite as a token of his deepest feelings. Interestingly, Winston Churchill always carried a Moldavite in his pocket for good luck.
