The Prague groschen is one of the most important coins in Czech history and became a symbol of the economic strength of the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia. It was introduced in 1300 during the monetary reform under King Wenceslaus II and quickly gained the trust of merchants throughout Central Europe. Its high silver content, uniform appearance, and high-quality minting made it a stable and respected currency.

  • Coin diameter: 2.7 cm

The main source of silver for minting Prague groschen was the rich mines in Kutná Hora, one of the most important mining centers in Europe. Other deposits were located in Jáchymov, Příbram, and the Jihlava region. Mining in these areas significantly contributed to the economic development of the Czech lands.
