Silver pendant with Moldavite.
Moldavites take their name from the Vltava River (called Moldau in German), which rises in the forested Šumava Mountains (known to the Celts as Gabreta). The Czech Moldavite symbolizes the spring of the Vltava River – a small spring, where everything begins.
This river has carried life through a large part of Bohemia, including Prague, since ancient times.
Moldavite is an exceptionally rare tektite formed approximately 15 million years ago during the impact of a giant meteorite in what is now Bavaria. Fragments of molten rock were thrown by pressure and heat as far as southern Bohemia and Moravia, where deposits of this green gemstone of cosmic origin gradually formed. Its color ranges from light bottle green to deep emerald green, always carrying a mysterious shine. Moldavite is valued all over the world.

Moldavites are valued not only for their rarity – their reserves are rapidly decreasing – but also for the traditions associated with them. It is said, for example, that Winston Churchill carried Moldavite in his pocket for good luck, and in South Bohemia it is customary to gift this stone to women as a symbol of love and protection.
