Joachimsthaler Thaler – precursor of the Dollar, coin replica, antique brass
The replica of the Jáchymov thaler is based on the coin that became the model for the later "dollar". On the obverse is a Czech lion and a copy with the name of King Ludvík, who was the formal issuer of the coin. The reverse bears the coat of arms of the Šlik family and the figure of St. Jáchym.
The coin is cast in zinc and has a distinctive patina which highlights the relief. It is suitable as a collector's piece, an addition to historical costumes or as a gift. It has a solid feel and when held in the hand is reminiscent of the time when the Jáchymov thalers influenced European coinage.
The 40 mm diameter gives the coin a distinctive size, the relief is deeper and legible even in ordinary light. The thickness of 2 mm holds its shape and the whole looks balanced. The replica preserves the iconic motifs that historically belong to the thaler.
