This precisely crafted thaler is a replica of a coin from the reign of Rudolf II. Habsburg (1552-1612), known for his support of art, alchemy and science. The original thalers of this type were minted in silver and were among the most valuable and widespread currency of their time.
The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of Emperor Rudolf II in richly decorated armour. The reverse side bears the imperial coat of arms with a crown and intricate heraldic decoration, symbolizing the power of the Habsburg family over the lands of the Bohemian Crown and the Empire. The surface is patinated to make the replica look authentic and faithfully evoke the original metal embossing.
