Swords for Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Collaboration with Warhorse Studios

The Game Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a medieval action RPG game developed by the Czech company Warhorse Studios. The story takes place in central Bohemia at the beginning of the 15th century, in the areas around the towns of Sasau, Rattay, and Skalitz. The game was released on February 13, 2018, and was directed by Daniel Vávra (also known for Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven).

We made Swords for Warhorse Studios

Our blacksmith workshop was approached by Daniel Vávra's team with a request to create forged replicas of sharp swords for backers worldwide for the game Kingdom Come - www.kingdomcomerpg.com. We gladly accepted this offer, and now you can see how our blacksmiths handled the task.

How did it start?

The collaboration with Warhorse Studios began while the game was still in development, with consulting on blacksmithing techniques. In 2013, Daniel Vávra’s team visited a forge near Karlštejn Castle, where they observed blacksmithing and sword-making processes. Insights from these visits later contributed to details within the game.

This was followed by an agreement to produce several hundred limited-edition swords for the backers who supported the game on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.com

As swordsmen, craftsmen, and artists with little connection to the gaming industry, this project offered a unique entry into that world, and the experience proved invaluable. Production processes and equipment were specifically adapted for this order, and several techniques developed during this time are still utilized today.

The blades were made from spring steel CSN 14 260 (54SiCr6 - a steel suitable for highly stressed springs in automobiles and railway vehicles), which were forged into shape by hand and with a power hammer. The guard was also forged and fitted to the blade. The tang was mounted with a sword pommel, into which a coin was embedded. The finished sword was then dressed in a stylish leather sheath at the saddlery workshop. Each sword was stamped with a unique number. Some swords were even intricately engraved in a special limited series.

The swords were tested by Daniel Vávra himself—and they cut magnificently! :D This production left us with not only memories but also new friendships.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Collaboration with a Game Studio – Sword Production

The production of several hundred forged swords for the backers of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. A fantastic collaboration with Dan Vávra and his team, through which we improved our production processes, acquired new machinery, and truly became a sword-making workshop. The project also involved saddlers and metal engravers.

Testing swords

How did swords do against armour?

The sharp versions of the swords were tested in cutting trials led by sword master Jakub Zeman. Dan Vávra, seen in the photo, conducted the testing himself. Additionally, we examined how different types of armor hold up against thrusts and cuts. You can watch how it all went in video below.
