Replica of a Viking-era needle box. This remarkable replica is decorative in the so-called Jelling style , based on a historical find from the Viking Age, dating from the early to mid 10th century.
Needles made of bronze are known from several sites from the Viking Age and were especially common in the Baltic Sea area.
- Size: 5,5 x 5 cm. The inner diameter of the tube is 7 mm.
- Bronze
The needle is open on both sides. It is best to use a piece of virgin wool inside the needle box - this will provide the necessary hold on the needles and ensure that they do not slip out and are still easy to grip.
These needle boxes could be made of bone or antler, but were often made of bronze as well.
