Federschwert, training one-handed sword with light and flexible blade
Federschwert - this sword gets its name from the German word for feather (die Feder). The name itself speaks of its weight. As attested in 16th century textbooks, especially by Paul Hector Mair and Joachim Meyer, it is a type of sword used in fencing schools during the Renaissance.
The blade of the sword is thin, very light, flexible and the point is widened at the end to minimize the risk of injury. The blade is fitted with a wide ricasso at the guard. The sword has approximately the same weight and centre of gravity position as common battle swords of the time.
